Dell XPS 13 review

For several months I used a little Lenovo ThinkPad X220 running Windows 7 and had a great experience - it felt rock solid and responsive, with fantastic battery life. Then I switched to a MacBook Pro, and now that I've gotten used to it, I actually find it more or less a wash between the two (sorry, Apple fanboys).

Samsung Series 5 Ultra review

The Samsung Series 5 Ultra is the company's first foray into the Ultrabook market (if you don’t count the Series 9, which predates the Ultrabook brand). There's just one problem: It weighs nearly 4lbs, and measures 0.82-inch thick. In other words, this 14-inch laptop is closer to a regular ultraportable than it is to an Ultrabook.

Dell Latitude E6220 review

Though not particularly svelte or eye-catching, the Dell Latitude E6220 fits the bill perfectly for a corporate ultraportable laptop. It's fast, it has state-of-the-art components, and it has the warranty and service options that large businesses expect. It also provides battery options that let you travel light or compute for nearly a day, depending on your need.

Asus Zenbook UX31E review

The Asus Zenbook UX31E is the Asus answer to Intel's plea to Windows laptop makers to copy the Apple MacBook Air. Asus's super-sleek ultrabook, the Zenbook UX31E, is finally here – and it's gorgeous. With its brushed-aluminum design, it more closely resembles the Apple MacBook Air than other ultrabooks do, and it really does elicit a Zen-like feeling. Throw in an Intel Core i5 processor, Bluetooth 4.0 and a USB 3.0 port, and the Asus Zenbook UX31E is almost – but not quite – perfect.

Lenovo IdeaPad U300s review

If there's a laptop that deserves the moniker "Ultrabook" - a term that Intel introduced (and trademarked) earlier this year for a class of very slim and light laptops - it's the Lenovo IdeaPad U300s. Not because it's faster or beefier than the competition (it's not), but because it actually looks like a thin coffee-table book when closed. It's also the Ultrabook that many in our labs gravitated toward due to its luxuriously minimalist styling and superior input ergonomics. At least they did until they heard it cost $1,595 (£1,221 inc VAT), a price tag that reflects the expense of the U300s's large (256GB) solid-state drive, or SSD.

Sony Tablet S preview

Sony finally revealed all on its Android-based Tablet S Wednesday, announcing the slate, with a 9.4-inch display, will ship in late September with a starting price of $500 for a 16GB model and $600 for the 32GB unit. You'd be wrong to think Sony's Tablet S is a run-of-the-mill iPad lookalike tablet to ignore. Sony's Tablet S shows the consumer electronics giant has not lost its design mojo over the years, and with this first tablet offering Sony infuses originality and flare into a tablet market that desperately needs it. Pre-sale of the Tablet S begins today.

HP EliteBook 2560p review

The corporate-oriented HP EliteBook 2560p has all the standard ultraportable goodies, but its real appeal is its exceptional sturdiness. It's built to take a lickin' and keep on tickin' (apologies to Timex).

Lenovo ThinkPad X1 review

The technology press has lumped Lenovo's ThinkPad X1 into a growing category of Macbook Air competitors, but now that I've used one for awhile, I can tell you it doesn't really belong there.

Asus U31JG review

The Asus U31JG, designed for urban professionals on the move, boasts a stylish brushed aluminium finish that coats the lid and wraps around the black plastic keyboard. It's not just a fashion statement either: The aluminum trim reinforces the plastic chassis, creating a sturdy ultra-portable laptop that packs enough power to play games and run your presentations while remaining light enough for you to carry on your daily commute.
