Apple's latest server, the Xserve is an attractive 64-bit box with a sensible price tag, decent scalability and an excellent operating system sitting on top.

Pros:

Up to 8GB RAM and three hot-swappable disks; wide range of rack-mount options; built-in Gigabit ports have Jumbo frames and VLAN capability.

Cons:

Awkward lid.
