Dell XPS 13 review

For several months I used a little Lenovo ThinkPad X220 running Windows 7 and had a great experience - it felt rock solid and responsive, with fantastic battery life. Then I switched to a MacBook Pro, and now that I've gotten used to it, I actually find it more or less a wash between the two (sorry, Apple fanboys).

Toshiba Satellite P755D review

The Toshiba Satellite P755D is a decent multimedia laptop, with a Blu-ray drive, Harman/Kardon stereo speakers, and a 15.6-inch widescreen high-def display. This "high-performance" model in Toshiba's "everyday value" Satellite line lists for $700 (as of April 2, 2012). Its quad-core AMD processor won't set any speed records, however.

Samsung Series 5 Ultra review

The Samsung Series 5 Ultra is the company's first foray into the Ultrabook market (if you don’t count the Series 9, which predates the Ultrabook brand). There's just one problem: It weighs nearly 4lbs, and measures 0.82-inch thick. In other words, this 14-inch laptop is closer to a regular ultraportable than it is to an Ultrabook.

Toshiba Qosmio X775-Q7170 review

The Qosmio X775-Q7170 is the entry-level model of the Qosmio X770 series of desktop replacement laptops. The Q7170 sports the same snazzy design as other laptops in the series: a 17.3-inch widescreen, a red-backlit keyboard, and a fade-to-red color scheme. However, it comes packed with some less-impressive hardware components and no 3D display.

Dell XPS 13 preview

Back at CES, we gave you the details on Dell's first Ultrabook, the XPS 13. At the time, I said "it may be the best laptop Dell's made in years," based on a very limited demonstration. Now I have the final production model in my hands, and I'm pleased to say my impression stands.

HP Envy 15 (early 2012) review

Last year's Envy laptops were a bit of a disappointment. The design that wowed me in 2010 had grown stale by 2011; at that point, the rest of the world had caught up to and surpassed the Envy's design, while HP was content to update only the system's internal components. The new Envy 15 and 17, which HP released right at the end of 2011, finally feature a whole new design. For the most part, it's great, but a few nagging issues keep the system from being an easy recommendation.

Dell Latitude E6220 review

Though not particularly svelte or eye-catching, the Dell Latitude E6220 fits the bill perfectly for a corporate ultraportable laptop. It's fast, it has state-of-the-art components, and it has the warranty and service options that large businesses expect. It also provides battery options that let you travel light or compute for nearly a day, depending on your need.

Sony VAIO S Series review

The Sony VAIO S Series isn't the most powerful all-purpose laptop, but I like it--and not just because I have a soft spot for Sony. Although the VAIO S Series offers mediocre general performance and modest graphics speed, it's also light, thin, stylish, and very portable.

WiMM One review

The quest for smaller and smaller computing devices usually involves a tradeoff between processor power, battery life, communications features, memory and storage. While the product I'm looking at today is in some respects the result of the intersection of a vision with compromises, the WiMM One from WiMM Labs is one of the slickest miniature computing devices I've seen to date.
