Toshiba Qosmio X775-Q7170 review

The Qosmio X775-Q7170 is the entry-level model of the Qosmio X770 series of desktop replacement laptops. The Q7170 sports the same snazzy design as other laptops in the series: a 17.3-inch widescreen, a red-backlit keyboard, and a fade-to-red color scheme. However, it comes packed with some less-impressive hardware components and no 3D display.

Acer Aspire Ethos 8951G review

The Acer Aspire Ethos 8951G is a behemoth of a notebook that's perfect as a desktop replacement. It has an 18.4in 1080p screen, a comfortable backlit keyboard and its guts are full of Intel Core i7 quad-core goodness.

Acer Aspire 8950G review

When I first hauled out the Acer Aspire 8950G from the backpack, I almost dropped it, not because it was that heavy, but because it was lighter than expected. This massive (I hesitate to say "notebook") desktop replacement system sports an 18.4-inch, true 1080p LCD panel. At 8 pounds, 5 ounces without the power brick, it's lighter than some smaller systems that have been through the lab here. Even with the 120 watt power supply, the weight falls just a little short of 10 pounds.

Dell Inspiron M501R review

The Dell Inspiron M5010 is based on AMD's triple-core Phenom II N850 CPU and it's one of the great all-round 15.6in laptops on the market. You can use it for office work, multimedia tasks and even gaming (although not for graphics-intensive first person shooters). It's a good unit for students looking for something to take back to school, yet even small business users should find it appealing for everyday work. We just wish it wasn't so glossy and reflective.

Asus N53SV review

Asus's good looking N53-series laptops have proved to be some of the faster all-purpose notebooks on the market. Such is the latest N53SV model, as well, only more so thanks to its new state-of-the-art second generation Intel Core CPU.

Google Chrome CR-48 laptop review

What's most striking about Google's CR-48, the company's proof-of-concept Chrome laptop, is just how little there is to it. It's really just Google's Chrome browser in a flat black box. Here's our Google Chrome laptop review.

Dell Precision M6500 review

If you're looking for power in a laptop, you've found it, the Dell Precision M6500 is about as powerful as modern desktop replacement laptops get. The M6500 has a number of features that you won't find anywhere else: support for up to four memory DIMM slots (holding up to 32GB of RAM), over 1TB of hard-drive storage space and a 17-inch, 1920-by-1200-pixel screen.

HP Envy 17 review

HP's design philosophy when it comes to the Envy series of laptops is to borrow liberally from Apple's Macbook line, then add some of its own flavour. The Envy 17 is no exception. At less than 8 pounds without the power brick, the Envy 17 is barely thicker than an inch and includes robust media playback capabilities, including Blu-ray movies.
