Netgear A6200 router review

If you need to connect several wired clients to your 802.11ac network, you should set up a wireless bridge. If you have just one client--especially a laptop, or maybe a home-theater PC--Netgear offers a better, cheaper alternative: Plug its A6200 USB Wi-Fi adapter into your PC and establish a wireless connection that's fast enough to stream Blu-ray-quality video.

Western Digital My Net AC1300 review

Western Digital entered the networking market in 2012 with an 802.11n router. The company has now delivered not only its first 802.11ac Draft 2.0 router--the My Net AC1300--but also its first 802.11ac bridge, the My Net AC Bridge (which we'll review separately). So what does a company that builds storage devices know about designing wireless networking hardware? Enough to deliver a light spanking to the best Wi-Fi router we've tested, the Asus RT-AC66U--at least on the 5GHz band.

Iomega StorCenter px2-300d NAS review

The Iomega px2-300d is a two-bay NAS box that delivers very good performance, excellent backup and surveillance features, and a helpful LCD that reports on the unit's status (IP address, current time, storage remaining, and so on). Its EMC LifeLine operating system is also one of the more feature-rich ones in the industry. But you should buy this box bare—Iomega populates it with enterprise-class hard drives that jack up the price.

Cisco Linksys EA6500 review

The 'EA' in the Cisco Linksys EA6500 stands for Enabled App, which means this 802.11ac router runs the Cisco Connect Cloud firmware, with apps to access it remotely. The number of available apps is still very limited, but the service is relatively young still. Cisco says that a number of developers are working on it.

TP-Link TL-WDR3600 router review

TP-Link is known for providing a lot of bang for your buck. The WDR3600 is a dual-band 802.11n router which is (theoretically) capable of 300Mbps on 2.4GHz and the same on 5GHz. For this reason it's known as an N600 router.

Buffalo AirStation WZR-D1800H 802.11ac router review

Buffalo was first to market with both an 802.11ac draft 2.0 router and an 802.11ac draft 2.0 media bridge to go with it. But I imagine that more than a few early adopters are gnashing their teeth over the fact that Buffalo has yet to release a firmware update to improve the pair's performance. The firmware available today is unchanged from when the manufacturer originally shipped the product.

Asus RT-AC66U router review

Asus currently builds the best consumer-oriented 802.11n router--the RT-N66U Dual-Band Wireless N900, which I used as a reference device to compare new 802.11ac routers against. After testing the company's $200 RT-AC66U, I believe that Asus also markets the best 802.11ac router currently available, too, though the offerings from several other manufacturers come close.

Samsung Optical Smart Hub review

It's a DVD burner! It's a Wi-Fi hotspot! It's a media streamer! Wrapping your mind around the Samsung Optical Smart Hub - a unique storage and streaming product with a singularly unintuitive name, a perplexing appearance, and several very specific uses - is rather challenging. Ultimately the Optical Smart Hub presents an intriguing concept for making use of optical discs in a mobile world, but it stumbles in its design and presentation.
