Mixxx is DJ mixing software created and maintained by the open source community. It's free, offers great basic capabilities, and supports around 30 external midi DJ controllers. It's where any aspiring DJ should start off, and it's good enough that you may never leave it, unless you're an FX junkie.

I liked fre:ac when it was bonkenc, and I like it now. It's the second-best free audio converter available (after Freemake's Audio Converter), and--if granularity over the quality of the conversions, support for Windows Media Lossless Audio, and command line access are priorities--deserving of download.

I've spend the last 12 hours using the beta of Google Music and for someone like me, with multiple PCs, a Mac, a Motorola Xoom and a Motorola Droid X, it's the Holy Grail of music players.
